Yesterday I read that genius was made, not born.
'Yeah yeah, I know' I can hear you say.
But genius can me made by just practicing.
Practicing what?
Not what, but for how long?
Remember the cliche "practice makes perfect?"
Science is telling us if we practice 10000 hours on a subject, almost everyone can be a genius at it.
Its 1 followed by 4 zeroes.
You might say, people like Mozart, Einstein and Bill Gates are natural genius.
But here's the fact.
Mozart started practicing music at around age 3.
A few hours a week.
As he grow older the practice increases several folds.
By the age of 20, he have already more than 10000hours of music experience.
Now about Einstein.
He is reported to daydream several times a day since young.
And through the daydream came the Theory of Relativity.
He daydreamed so much that he is able to visualize time-space.
So its still practice.
Bill Gates.
Did you know he was really obsessed with computer programming?
He sacrificed sleep and work round the clock on computers.
It started from high school.
And few years later, the time practicing might have already exceeded 10000hours.
So whats the main point?
We think that these people have natural talent or something.
We did not see their devotion and sacrifice.
As Mozart says, "people think my art come to me easily".
People just missed the part where he really put his effort into studying the works of great masters repeatedly.
I know you hate to know this, but there's actually no excuse for you to be lazy.
No more saying thing like "I just can't do it" or "I am never good in this".
Personally, I hate to think bout it too.
But I am also equally happy that genius can be achieved. :)
